Fabric Requirements for Class: The yardage instructions are on the back page of the pattern. You can make it bigger but there is no need to cut for a bigger quilt before class unless you just want to do it. Below is a list of the units that need to be cut befor class. Follow the cutting instructions in the patternto complete the cutting. If you are not sure about your fabric selections, just cut out enough fabric pieces to make four blocks for each section in class. This way you can learn the process for making this quilt. If you have purchased your fabric and want to cut out the whole quilt prior to class this is fine.

Read your instructions. I do not expect you to understand them all, especially if this is your first class with me. Try to come to class prepared. This is a one-day class to teach paper piecing techniques. If you come to class with a basket of fabric and no templates you will not get any sewing done. Work through all the cutting instructions and have as much cut out as possible before class. If you run short of time or find yourself confused, then only cut what you understand. This quilt was designed to use scraps. So if you make a cutting mistake you can throw it away and cut another piece.

Templates: Before you make your templates, read the information on page 2 about cutting templates and proceed as the instructions say. The templates must be made prior to class so you can cut out your fabric pieces. Note: If you do not want to make your templates you can purchase them through us for $8.00 a set, which would include shipping. You will need the templates prior to class. You can call with a credit card or send a check and we will mail them out to you.

Foundation Paper: You need two (4) foundation papers of each unit cut out for class. Follow the cutting instructions for the foundation papers on page 2. Please have these ready for class. Trim the excess paper from your foundation paper about 1/8″ away from the outside cutting line. There is no need to cut out all the papers before class unless you just have time to waste. I will be demonstrating a quick and easy way to stack & trim the rest of the foundation papers in class. If you have taken a class from me before and know how to stack and trim the paper cut them out and place them into the appropriate bags as stated in the instructions.

Before class, please cut out enough pieces to complete four(4)of each foundation units listed below. To complete the cutting for each unit listed remember follow the cutting instructions in the pattern. That is what the pattern is for.

Center Spike Units: Cut enough pieces from each template to make four (4) units.

BS-2 Border Units: Cut enough pieces from each template to make four (4)units.

BS-2 Star Units: Cut enough pieces from each template to make four (4) units.

CS-3 Corner Units: We will not be sewing any of the corner units in class so if you are not cutting out the whole quilt then there is no need to cut these pieces before class.

Melon Template M-2: We will cut these pieces in class.

Melon Template M-1: We will cut these pieces in class.
