Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 3-WEEKS prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting before hand. We always recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.

Fabric Selection: This quilt was made using two packages of Bali Pops. Choosing fabrics for each unit is easy! Any two strips of fabric are acceptable as long as you work with an assortment of the following values, (light and dark values), (light and medium values), and (medium and dark values). Any pre-cut package of 2 1/2″ strips such as Bali-pops, Jelly Rolls, etc. will work, or you can choose your own fabrics! You will need to cut two 2-1/2″ x 42″ strips for each unit (a total of 80 strips) in a variety of light, medium and dark fabrics. Bali Pops are not used for the K-Units. Refer to the yardage chart on the back of your pattern for the required fabric amounts for these units.

Prepare the Template Layout Sheets: Please refer to the Templates, and Template Layout Sheets and Prepare the Template Layout Sheets on page 2 of your pattern. Also read the Template Cutting Instructions on page 3. Make sure your templates are placed in the bags noted in this section.

Prepare the Foundation Papers: Please refer to the Prepare the Foundation Papers on page 2 of your pattern. You only need to cut out one page each of the foundation papers for Unit K, Unit B, and Unit T before class. Judy will demonstrate a faster method of cutting out the rest of your papers during class!

Cutting Instructions: Please check our website for corrections before you begin cutting your fabric. Make sure that your have your (80) 2 1/2″ x 42″ Strips cut before class. You do not need to do anything else with these strips before class. You also do not need to worry about following the stacking instructions for each step as Judy will go over this in class!

Cutting the Black Strips: Follow the cutting instructions for Cutting the Black Fabric Strips on page 8 of your pattern. Using a binder or large paper clip, clip your fabrics and place in the bags specified.

Unit-K: Follow the cutting instructions for Unit-K Dark Fabrics on page 8 of your pattern. Clip your fabrics and place in the bags specified. Follow the cutting instructions for Unit-K Light Fabrics on page 8 and 9 of your pattern. Clip your fabrics and place in the bags specified. Note: Do NOT follow the ‘Subcutting the Template Layout Sheets’ instructions for any of the K-Units as Judy will go over this in class!
