Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 3-WEEKS prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting beforehand. It is important that you have your pre-class cutting completed. If this step is not completed, you will have a very difficult time keeping up and participating in the instruction. We recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.

CORRECTIONS: PLEASE visit our website prior to class and make sure that you have the latest corrections for the pattern.  Corrections are listed in our pattern gallery on our website at http://quiltworx.com/patterns. Click on the Witches Brew pattern and check the right column of the webpage for more information.  If your pattern has a QR Code printed on the back, you may also scan this with your smartphone to go directly to the page and upload the corrections to your phone. 

Fabric Selection: Please refer to the yardage charts on the back of your pattern.

Preparing the Foundation Papers and Template Layout Sheets: Please read ‘Cut out all the Foundation Papers, Templates and Template Layout Sheets:’ on page 2 of your pattern. Place all of the papers in the bags specified in the graphics on page 2 and 3 of your pattern.

Cutting Instructions: Please read through ‘General Cutting Instructions’ on page 4 of your pattern before beginning the steps below. We recommend checking our website for pattern corrections before you begin cutting your fabric. Note: Please make sure all of the Template Sheets, Foundation papers, and fabric pieces are placed in the correct bags!

Sub-Cutting fabric Instructions: Follow the cutting instructions under ‘Sub-Cutting Fabric Instructions’ for Group 1 – 4 on page 3 and 4 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in specified bags.

Unit C, Cutting Instructions: Bag #1: Follow the first two steps under ‘Unit C, Cutting Instructions: Bag #1’ on page 4 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in bag #1. Do not subcut the Template sheets as your instructor will demonstrate this in class!

Unit C, Spike Template C: Bag #1: Follow the steps under ‘Unit C, Spike Template C: Bag #1’ on page 4 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #1.

Unit A, Cutting Instructions: Bag #2: Follow the first two steps under ‘Unit A, Cutting Instructions: Bag #2’ on page 4 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #2. Do not subcut the Template sheets as your instructor will demonstrate this in class!

Unit A, Spike Template A: Bag #2: Follow the steps under ‘Unit A, Spike Template A: Bag #2’ on page 4 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #2.

Unit B1: Cutting Instructions: Bag #3: Follow the steps under ‘Unit B1: Cutting Instructions: Bag #3’ and ‘Unit B1, Spike Templates: Bag #3’ on page 4 and 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #3. Do not subcut the Template sheets as your instructor will demonstrate this in class!

Unit B2, Cutting Instructions: 4 Units: Bag #4: Follow the first two steps under ‘Unit A, Cutting Instructions: Bag #2’ on page 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #4. Do not subcut the Template sheets as your instructor will demonstrate this in class!

Unit B2, Spike Templates: Follow the steps under ‘Unit B2, Spike Templates’ on page 5 of your pattern. Clip pieces using large paper clips or binder clips and place in Bag #4.

The following items are needed to make this quilt.  Please make sure you bring the following items to class if they will not be provided by the organizer. They are essential to the techniques I teach:

Sewing Machine with a quarter-inch foot and Accessories
Steam Iron ~ Usually provided in Classroom
Ironing Board ~ Usually Provided in Classroom
One piece of Template Plastic (3″ by 12″ piece)
12″ Add-a-quarter ruler
Purple Thang (optional)
6″ by 12″ ruler
Medium size cutting mat (18” by 24”)
Rotary cutter 45mm or 60 mm
New rotary blade
Size 70 needles (Microtex Sharp recommended)
Scissors
Seam ripper
Surge protectors and Extension cords (We STRONGLY recommend making sure you have these to make sure you have power for your sewing machine).
Fabric glue UHU stic
Glue Pen (Fons and Porter, Sewline, or Avery recommended)
High quality cotton sewing thread
Flower pins
Scotch Tape
Large Ziploc Bags (If you have precut your fabric, you’ve already used your bags.  Make sure to bring them labeled and full of your fabric pieces according to the cutting directions on the day of class!)
Stapler
Binder Clips
Large Paper Clips
