Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 3-WEEKS prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting beforehand. It is important that you have your pre-class cutting completed. If this step is not completed, you will have a very difficult time keeping up and participating in the instruction. We recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.
Note: We will not get through the entire Feathered Star Pattern during your class with me.
Prior to class, I would like to see the following:
1) That you have read and familiarized yourself with the Introduction Booklet, including completion of all the steps outlined in that Booklet. This covers your fabric selection, layout, fabric sorting, organization, and cutting instructions for your foundation units and template layout sheets.
2) In Chapters 1 through 5, follow the cutting instructions on Pages #1 and #2 of each booklet. If you have never followed my cutting instructions before, it will likely be helpful for you to contact the shop or your instructor with any questions you might have BEFORE you begin cutting your fabric.
CORRECTIONS: PLEASE visit our website prior to class and make sure that you have the latest corrections for the pattern. Corrections are listed in our pattern gallery on our website at http://quiltworx.com/patterns. Click on the Feathered Star pattern and check the right column of the webpage for more information. If your pattern has a QR Code printed on the back, you may also scan this with your smartphone to go directly to the page and upload the corrections to your phone.
MY WORD OF ADVICE: This class is about paper piecing, not cutting. If you do not come to class with your cutting complete, you will not have an opportunity to do any piecing during the workshop. The cutting for this quilt takes time and organization and you will be behind the rest of the class without these steps COMPLETE!
The following items are needed to make this quilt. Please make sure you bring the following items to class if they will not be provided by the organizer. They are essential to the techniques I teach:
Sewing Machine with a quarter-inch foot and Accessories
Steam Iron ~ Usually provided in Classroom
Ironing Board ~ Usually Provided in Classroom
One piece of Template Plastic (3″ by 12″ piece)
12″ Add-a-quarter ruler
Purple Thang (optional)
6″ by 12″ ruler
Medium size cutting mat (18” by 24”)
Rotary cutter 45mm or 60 mm
New rotary blade
Size 70 needles (Microtex Sharp recommended)
Scissors
Seam ripper
Surge protectors and Extension cords (We STRONGLY recommend making sure you have these to make sure you have power for your sewing machine).
Fabric glue UHU stic
Glue Pen (Fons and Porter, Sewline, or Avery recommended)
High quality cotton sewing thread
Flower pins
Scotch Tape
Large Ziploc Bags (If you have precut your fabric, you’ve already used your bags. Make sure to bring them labeled and full of your fabric pieces according to the cutting directions on the day of class!)
Stapler
Binder Clips
Large Paper Clips
