Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 3-WEEKS prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get the pre-cutting completed before hand. This process will take you from 8- to 12-hours to complete, which does not count the time spent at the fabric store selecting the fabrics to use in the quilt. If this step is not completed, you will have a very difficult time keeping up and participating in the instruction. I do not want anyone to feel as though they have wasted their money and time.
In this class you will have the opportunity to learn some of the techniques that I teach and write about in my patterns. I teach a process for chain-piecing designed for foundation paper piecing. This process is possible because the fabrics have been pre-cut using templates, designed for foundation paper piecing. I also teach speed-cutting techniques for both paper and fabric. I teach curved piecing, traditional piecing and pressing techniques that will enable you to speed up the process for foundation paper piecing, curved piecing, and traditional piecing.
Foundation Papers: This quilt uses three (3) different foundation units. These units are called Unit-H, Unit-CG, and Unit-CSS. Cut out one page of foundation papers for each unit by trimming the excess paper from around the outside cutting line by approximately 1/8”. It is much easier to position the fabric under the foundation paper when the excess paper has been trimmed away. Note: Don’t waste time cutting out all the foundation papers. I will be demonstrating a fast and easy way to cut the remaining foundation papers in class.
Template Layout Sheets: Make four (4) copies of each Template Layout Sheet found in the center of your pattern.
Cutting Instructions:
Unit-H: Follow the cutting instructions for Steps 1 through 3. Place the fabric pieces with the Template Layout Sheets into Bag #1. We will complete the cutting for Steps 4 and 5 in class.
Spikes: Follow and complete the cutting instructions for Steps 1, through 4. Place the fabric pieces into the appropriate Bags.
