Garden for my Wedding Ring Instructions
www.quiltworx.com
Supply List and Precutting Instructions: In this class we will begin to construct a quilt based upon the Garden Wedding Ring pattern. You will need to purchase this pattern before class. Cutting instructions are listed on this hand out; you are not required to cut out the whole quilt before this class.
Note: The strip piecing method I will be teaching in class uses a little more yardage than what the yardage requirements on the pattern call for. If you like the technique and you will, you should add about 1/4 yard to the total yardage for each of the eight colors used for the arcs.
Things to do Before Class: Read your instructions before class. Then take a deep breath and relax!
Make your Templates: The templates for precutting your fabric are stuffed in the center of the pattern. Make two photocopies of each the Center and Melon Template. When making copies check the copies for accuracy. Glue both copies onto a piece of template plastic with all the writing facing up. Cut out the templates by trimming around the outside line on each template with your rotary cutter. Please read below the information about strip piecing the Arcs.
Foundation Paper: You need to cut out (12) A-Arcs and (12) B-Arcs before class. Trim the excess paper from your foundation papers about 1/8” away from the outside cutting line. I will be demonstrating a quick and easy way to trim the rest of the foundation papers in class so do not waste time cutting out all the foundation papers.
Class Precutting Instructions: I will be teaching a simplified strip-piecing version of the Garden Wedding Ring in this one-day workshop. Please prepare your class materials as instructed below for this class. Note: the strip piecing technique that I will be teaching you will save you both cutting and sewing time.
Strip Piecing the Arcs: Class precutting instructions.
1. Arcs: Cut two (2) 2-1/2” by 42” strips across the grain from eight(8) different colors for the arcs. Note: Do not cut these strips apart into single wedges. I will be showing you how to assemble this quilt using a strip piecing technique with foundation paper. You will like the technique. It is fast and very organized.
Another note: The 2-1/2” measurement for the strips is not a mistake. The instructions in the pattern say to cut the strips 3” wide but the strip piecing method I will be teaching does not require a 3” strip.
2. Background: Cut one 9\” by 42\” strips from your background fabric. This strip is for the center and melon templates but do not cut them before class.
3. Corners: Bring two (2) or four (4) 3” strips for the corner fabrics. We will cut these in class.
