General Information: You will need to purchase the Gooseberry Garden pattern and your fabric prior to class. Yardage requirements are listed on the back of the cover sheet.

Selecting Fabric: Choose 4 main colors for the piecing of the blocks and then several colors for the applique berries, pinecones, flowers, and leaves.

Fabric color #1: Marbled light colored background.

Fabric color #2: Medium colored flying geese.

Fabric color #3: Medium light center triangles and the inner border.

Fabric color #4: Medium dark center baskets.

Things to do before class:

Please read the instructions prior to class.

Make your templates (follow the instructions on page 1 & 2 under “Templates”).

Cut out your foundation papers (follow the instructions on page 1 under “Foundation Papers”).

Please try to have all your strips and pieces cut prior to class. The complete cutting instructions are found on page 2 in your pattern. All fabric can be layered with wrong sides together before cutting for this quilt.

Template B: Cut 5″ strips for template B:

Color #1: Background Fabric; cut four (4) triangles.

Color #2: Flying Geese Fabric; cut six (6) strips (96 triangles)

Color #3: Corner Triangles; cut two (2) strips (28 triangles)

Template C: Cut 2 1/2″ strips for template C:

Color #1: Background Fabric; cut five (5) strips (48 pieces). Cut with wrong sides together.

Color #4: Basket Fabric; cut 2 strips (16 pieces). Cut with wrong sides together.

Template D: Cut 2 1/2″ strips for template D:

Color #1: Background Fabric; cut seven (7) strips (48 pieces). Cut with wrong sides together.

Color #4: Basket Fabric; cut three (3) strips (16 pieces). Cut with wrong sides together.

Template E: Cut eight (8) large 11 1/8″ squares from background fabric #1. Place Template E onto the squares and cross cut the section as illustrated for Template E in the instructions. Each square yields 4 quarter square triangles. Quarter square triangles are designed so that the longest side of the triangle is cut with the grain line allowing grain line to run along the inside and out side border edges.

Inner Border Strips: Cut four (4) strips 1 1/4″ by 32″ from fabric #3 for the inner border strips.
