Supply List and Pre-cutting Instructions: This class is a three-hour lecture & workshop designed to introduce you to the techniques I teach and use for foundation paper piecing. In this class we will work with the foundation papers used to make the Shattered Glass pattern. Please purchase the pattern prior to class. You will need the pattern to make your templates and cut out your pieces. The cutting must be done before class. Yardage requirements are listed on the back cover sheet.

Templates: Make your templates and cut out your fabrics prior to class. The templates are found on the foundation paper. Templates A and B are used for the background pieces. Template C is used for the spikes. Step 5 in your instructions say to cut the strip used for Template C 3-1/2″. Please cut this strip 4″. The spikes come out a little taller and make it easier to center you fabric under the foundation paper. Make templates for each Melon-A, Melon A1, and Melon B1.

Foundation Paper: Cut out four (4) foundation units. Trim away the excess paper from around your foundation units to about 1/8\” away from the outside cutting line. There is no need to cut out the rest before class unless you just have time to waste. I will be demonstrating a quick and easy way to stack & trim the rest of foundation papers in class.

Cutting Fabric: Please bring the following templates and fabric pieces cut and ready to sew in class. Clip the templates and fabric pieces together with a large paper clip. If you decide to cut out enough fabric pieces to complete the whole quilt place the templates and fabric pieces into individual bags.

Step 1: Template A: Background Fabric: For class you need four (4) left and four (4) right side pieces. To complete the quilt you need sixteen (16) left and sixteen (16) right pieces.

Step 2: Template B: Background Fabric: For class you need eight (8) pieces. To complete the quilt you need thirty-two (32) pieces.

Step 3: Background Fabric: For class cut sixteen (16) 3-1/2″ by 6″ rectangles Crosscut these rectangles from corner to corner. To complete the quilt cut sixteen (16) rectangles.

Step 4: Background Fabric: For class cut four (4) 2″ by 8″ rectangles. To complete the quilt cut sixteen (16) pieces.

Step 5: Template C: Dark Fabric: For class cut twelve (12) pieces. To complete the quilt, cut forty-eight (48) pieces. Note: remember to cut these strips 4″ instead of 3-1/2″. Use Template C and cross cut the strips. The spikes will be a little taller than the template. This will make it easier to piece under the foundation paper.

Step 6: Melon-A: Medium Fabric: For class cut two (2) 3-1/2″ squares. To complete the quilt cut eight (8) squares.

Step 7: Melon-B1: Dark Fabric: For class cut two (2) 3-1/2″ squares. To complete the quilt cut eight (8) squares.

Step 8: Melon-A1: Light Fabric: For class cut two (2) 2-1/2″ squares. To complete the quilt cut eight (8) squares.

*UHU Washout fabric glue stick

A Purple Thang (I will bring these to class with me)
Small iron
Flat ironing board
Marking Pencil
Size 70 or 80 sewing machine needles
A good working sewing machine
Flower pins
A high-quality cotton thread
