Three Day Retreat Instructions
www.quiltworx.com
Overview: In this three-day workshop you will have the opportunity to see and learn most of the short cuts and techniques that I teach and write about in my patterns. I teach a process for foundation paper-piecing that includes many traditional sewing techniques such as speed-piecing, speed-cutting, strip piecing, curved piecing and applique.
Selection of Quilt: Please, select and purchase one of my patterns to work on prior to class. Once you have selected a pattern, please contact us by sending an email to judy@quiltworx.com to let us know which quilt you have chosen.
I have prepared a simplified version of the pre-cutting instructions for each of our patterns. Once we know which pattern you are planning to work on, we will forward you the information you need to prepare for class.
Please include the following information in your email:
Your name, address, and a contact phone number.
Dates, location, and the name of the workshop you are attending.
Name and size of the pattern you are planning to work on.
Before Class: You should try to have the following things completed before coming to class:
Instructions: Please read through your instructions at least one time. If you have questions or concerns please let me know before class so I can help you.
Foundation Papers: Please cut out one page each of the different units in your pattern. Spend a few minutes to become acquainted with the foundation papers in your pattern. Prepare the foundation papers by trimming the excess paper from around the outside cutting line by approximately 1/8”. It is much easier to position the fabric under the foundation papers when the excess paper has been trimmed away. Place a large paper clip on each group to keep the units together.
Fabric: Please have your fabric selected and ready for class. If your precutting instructions indicate that you need to precut your fabrics then please try to have most of your fabrics precut before class.
Templates: If your pattern requires templates, you must make them before you come to class. You will need the templates if your pattern requires you to precut fabric before class. Your pattern instructions will tell you how to make the templates.
Template Layout Sheets: If your pattern was designed around Template Layout Sheets, then you must make your copies before coming to class. Your pattern instructions will tell you how to prepare your Template Layout Sheets.
Caution! Always check your templates for accuracy after photocopying or scanning to the original templates in the pattern. If the templates are not sized properly before cutting your fabrics, the fabric pieces you cut could end up the wrong size and you may need to re-cut and start over with new fabric.
