Wild Goose Chase Class: This is a one-day class designed to teach you the simplicity of foundation paper piecing along with simple stack and slice techniques to speed up your cutting time. You will need to purchase a copy of the pattern listed above for this class. The patterns include the yardage instructions, template making instructions, and the foundation papers. Read your pattern prior to class.

Cutting Instructions for Wild Goose Chase Flying Geese Units: Make your templates, and bring your fabrics in the form of twelve (12) light and twelve (12) dark 6″ x 42″ strips to class. Any combination of fabrics will work. The more variety of colors the more you will like the quilt. The quilt on the cover uses twelve (12) different light and twelve (12) different dark fabrics. One (1) strip is cut from each light and dark fabric.

Cutting Instructions for Wild Goose Border Units: Make your templates, and bring your fabrics to class in the form of twelve (12) 6″ x 42″ strips. You can choose to use all dark fabrics, all light fabrics, or a combination. Again, any combination of fabrics will work, and the more variety of colors the more you will like the quilt. The quilt on the cover uses twelve (12) different dark fabrics for the border. One (1) strip is cut from each dark fabric. Please do not proceed any further than what is shown here with the cutting instructions as outlined in the pattern until you come to class. A key part of making this quilt is pre-cutting and proper organization of the cut pieces. Going over this in class saves many students a considerable amount of time, as they start off in the right direction when it comes to keeping all the pieces organized properly.

Quilt Size: 52″ by 65″ (cover quilt)

To make the 52″ by 65″ quilt you will need 48 Flying Geese Units, 14 border sections, and 4 corner border units.

Layout: 8 horizontal rows by 6 vertical rows

Yardage For Strips: Yardage is figured by using the following formula. One 6″ strip yields enough fabric to make two squares. For the quilt size on the cover, the yardage is included on the back of the pattern and includes 1/6 yard each of twelve (12) light fabrics and twelve (12) dark fabrics for the flying geese units, and twelve (12) light and/or dark fabrics for the border. Yardage for a larger quilt is available on the packages of extra foundations, which you will also need to complete a larger quilt.
